Pop-Up Art: 3D Perspectives Take on a New Angle

Check out these mind-blowing 3D illustrations by Japanese artist Nagai Hideyuki.  The 21 year old artist uses charcoal and pencil to create drawings that seem to pop-up out of the sketchbook.  Hideyuki uses a technique called anamorphosis which leaves his compositions otherwise distorted if not viewed from the correct angle.

However, with the right lighting, strong shading, and perfect angle for capturing a photo, an optical illusion is created that brings the illustrations to life.  See for yourself.

Feel free to try this at home.  We would love to see what you can come up with!  Add your drawings to the Land8 Gallery here with the tag ‘Perspectives’.
